History[edit]

April 2020 ― August 2020: The Dark Ages[edit]

I joined Wikipedia on April 17, 2020. I'm assuming I was on a YouTube binge spree, which most likely is the reason why most of my first edits were on YouTube-related articles. I was too nervous to edit these articles upright; instead, I left messages on the talk pages instead of what I wanted to add, trying to get help from other regulars there. The most notable I could remember was a section I created for Mr. Beast, about his usual sponsorships. Someone on my talk page told me I was doing a good job, boosting my motivation; the whole section was reverted with a rude attitude a little while later, so my motivation was cancelled out. Eventually, I started a draft for Edgenuity, an online learning resource that gained popularity during the COVID-19 pandemic. The reason why I made this probably came from the fact that I was surprised it didn't exist yet.

IXL Learning logo, set to appear on the draft if it were to be published

Most people turn new users away from creating new articles, due to it being a very difficult task. My draft was in danger for reading too much like an advertisement, mostly from informal writing at the time. I then got very lucky; Hillelfrei took the article under their wing, removing faulty writing and adding inline citations. After other help from North8000, the article was published on April 23, 2020. After my family was astonished I created an article on Wikipedia, they asked me to make other content that was obviously not notable for inclusion, but I still attempted to create two of their article ideas.

On May 18, 2020,[a] I continued the trend of creating learning platform articles, this time about IXL Learning. This article was later declined by DGG for reading like an advertisement; it was then deleted by me a month later, due to the amount of work it would be to improve the article. Later in June, I got caught up in the Department of Fun, and most of my edits at this time were of low importance.[b]

September 2020 ― October 2020: Early video game edits, Super Mario Bros. 35, Wikiprojects[edit]

Me trying to pry myself from my work

My earliest edit to video game related content was an AfD discussion for The Henry Stickmin Collection;[c] My earliest edit to existing video game content was Jackbox Games; My first edit to video games specifically was Chibi-Robo!,[d] and my first edit to a singular video game was Tetris.[e][f] My first official video game project was Super Mario Bros. 35, starting expanding and improving close to the games' release on October 5, 2020. A day later, I was invited by Oinkers42 to join Wikiproject Nintendo. This later branched out to Wikiproject Video Games, my earliest edit appearing October 8, 2020.[g][h] On November 2, 2020, the article was promoted to good article status.

November 2020 ― March 2021: The Origami King and Paper Mario good topic[edit]

After the article's promotion,[i] I searched for a new project to start. Due to my enjoyment of Paper Mario: The Origami King, I started to work toward good article promotion. Along the way, I set the game up for a peer and a copyedit, both being concluded by December. I also started other projects; I created Kirby Fighters 2 on November 13, and started participating more in both Wikiprojects.[j] I aided in getting the Kirby series to good topic by nominating Kirby Star Allies for good article status, but the concept later died out due to the amount of work it would take. The article passed as a GA in February 2021. On December 2, 2020, I nominated The Origami King for featured article status; while I waited for additional comments, I started working on getting the entire Paper Mario series to good topic. I promoted Paper Mario: Color Splash and Paper Mario: Sticker Star on December 22 and December 24 respectively. In January 2021, I started working even more productively for the Wikicup, starting a promotion for Good Job! for good article status. The Origami King was promoted to featured article on January 21, 2021, with Good Job! later appearing as a DYK and good article shortly after. I was notified late January that the Paper Mario series could not become a good topic without the main series article, an article that was previously redirected two years prior, so I quickly put one together and moved it to the main space in early February. After getting ninth place in round one of the Wikicup, I promoted Paper Mario to GA, and nominated it for FAC shortly after.[k] The series was promoted to GT in mid-March.

March 2021 ― Present: Random contributions[edit]

After the Paper Mario series was promoted to good topic, I began to promote Paper Mario to a FA for the fun of it. Beyond that, I was unsure of what big project I should work on next. I began to hop around on certain article and simply improve them, such as Mario, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and Pac-Man 99. Mario was on my radar after an IP user suggested it to be improved, after noticing my Paper Mario good topic. I began rewriting the article, working first on the "Appearances" section. Random edits occurred throughout April, others including Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle and Mario Golf: Super Rush. The Paper Mario FAC stalled during April and May, mainly due to being busy in real life and a simple lack of motivation, but was promoted in late May. I planned a Warioware good topic, fixing WarioWare Gold to GA, but progress on it slowed but was never completely abandoned, with some of my sandboxes being taken up by mid-progress drafts of some of the games in the series. I took a break from Wikipedia the following summer, staying afloat in the Wikicup because of the points from Paper Mario. When I returned, however, the competition was down to the last sixteen, and in order to stay in the competition, I needed to get three FAs in a span of two weeks. I chose to withdraw, ranking 16th overall.

Hey Panini, this Barnstar is the result for a lot of the hard work you've put into the the Video Game WikiProject espicially with Nintendo. Despite the fact we joined around the same time, you have excelled further than I can ever dream of with Wikipedia, getting GAs and DYKs (it's really impressive)! Hopefully we can collaborate more on future projects. CaptainGalaxy 20:12, 2 December 2020 (UTC)

Hey, this is Ramesty here. Just want to say thanks for messaging me and also for the work you have done on the Paper Mario series. I had wanted to get the series as a main article for awhile, but everyone at the time (I was fifteen) thought it fitted better under "spinoffs" with the rest of the other Mario RPGs. I thought maybe that when enough Paper Mario games were made that it would get its own article (in fact I thought it already had enough [6 games at the time]), but apparently not. It took Origami King and your help to move it up to where it is, so I thank you for that. If you compare edits, there is a two year space between my last one on the page and your first one (with only two others in between)! I guess I gave up at the time, mainly because of time reasons (I am going to graduate high school this September), and also because of the work it takes. I had to use Wikipedia's help desk several times to figure out what makes an article good, how to correctly setup a page, etc. And some of that I have forgotten. There are still projects I'd like to do on Wikipedia, but for now I will have to save them for later. I encourage you to keep working on articles if you can, especially Mario and Nintendo related ones. Thanks again for taking interest and even noticing that I worked on it. I'll read it in the next couple of days and see what you've done with it. If there's anything else, just message! Ramesty (talk) 19:10, 22 April 2021 (UTC)

Thank you for organizing the userboxes on my userpage. I had just gone to my userpage and noticed that someone had organized them for me. I checked the history and in the edit summary, you said that you organized it for me, if I didn't mind (which I dont). I realise that I never properly thanked you for your help on helping make Chibi-Robo! Zip Lash become a GA Article back in February. It is my apologies that I didn't thank you sooner. Hopefully we can work together more in the future. CaptainGalaxy 15:04, 19 August 2021 (UTC)

I've been meaning to give you a barnstar for a long, long time, but I just couldn't find one suitable. Thank you for answering all of my questions and for being a close WikiFriend (is that a thing?). Whenever I come across a problem or question, I come to you first, and the Teahouse second. Thank you for striving to keep Wikipedia amazing. For explaining to me how on earth I start Draft:Splatoon 3. I'm.. still a tad lost as to what info to start with but you've helped me get there. ― Blaze The WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 01:30, 30 September 2021 (UTC)

Thank you so much for working with me to make Splatoon 3 into a full article. Honestly, I probably would've either just given up or had the draft deleted because it was stale by 6 months and I couldn't figure out how to start if you hadn't helped. ― Blaze The WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 18:35, 1 October 2021 (UTC)

Notes[edit]

  1. ^ I've made my 100th edit the same day.
  2. ^ Paper Mario: The Origami King was released on July 17, 2020, but I was inactive for a month, not being a part of its early creation.
  3. ^ This most likely came from the popularity of Among Us at the time.
  4. ^ Attracted attention from me after a video about Chibi-Robo! Zip Lash was posted from Scott the Woz.
  5. ^ After looking at the list of best-selling video games, and noticed this is the third most purchased video game of all time with such a low quality article, it attracted my attention.
  6. ^ I reluctantly purchased The Origami King in August 2020. Eventually, I fell in love with the game.
  7. ^ On October 12, 2020, I made my 500th edit.
  8. ^ On October 20, 2020, I made my 1000th edit.
  9. ^ I also created Candleman on October 19, 2020.
  10. ^ On November 27, 2020, I made my 2000th edit.
  11. ^ In February 2021, I made my 5000th edit.
  12. ^ Mine was Ever Given
  13. ^ I technically didn't make the nomination, but I took it over pretty much.
